The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious international football tournament in the world. It is contested by the senior men’s national teams of FIFA member countries, and is held every four years (except during the interruption caused by World War II). The tournament has grown in scale, drama, and global significance since its first edition in 1930.
Only nations from Europe and South America have ever won the men’s World Cup. Brazil remains the most successful country in World Cup history, having lifted the trophy five times.
The most recent winner is Argentina, which won the 2022 edition — its third World Cup title.
